About Me

Personal Statement

Passion, perseverance and hard work is Mariam Syed’s mantra. She is extremely passionate about weaving and her excellent craftsmanship is evident in her beautiful designs that are meticulously woven on a traditional loom.
Inspired by the rich visual culture of her hometown Karachi, she is fascinated by the vibrant colours and graphic patterns of Pakistani Truck Art set against the magnificent architecture of the colonial era.
She fuses her rich tones of colour with linear shapes derived from the busy city buildings to achieve a harmonious balance of sophisticated design. By using double cloth weave construction, Mariam Syed transfers her design ideas onto woven fabric.
Mariam Syed graduated from the Glasgow School of Art with a bachelor’s degree in Textile Design.
