About Me

Personal Statement

BY GEORGE designs and makes furniture, mostly to commission for individuals and corporate clients. He originally studied Fine Art Sculpture at Glasgow School of Art which continues to inform his practice.Later he studied Furniture Making Design and Craftsmanship at the City of Glasgow College.
There is an emphasis on traditional materials and methods of construction.
He believes that we as a society have become seduced by the notion of furniture as a disposable commodity. His work is an attempt to address this, making pieces which will become part of individuals and families stories for generations to come.
He works closely with his local sawmill, Moyne Sawmill, ensuring the provenance of the materials used, mostly Scottish Oak, Ash and Elm.
He enjoys working collaboratively with fellow designers and makers, including print maker Ashley Cook, upholsterer/restorer Phil McCluskey and fellow furniture maker Alastair Condon.
This collaborative approach allows him to draw on a range of specialist skills to suit an individual clients wishes.
