I design and make hand woven fabric in my studio in central Edinburgh on a 32 shaft computerised Louet Megado 130 Loom.
Inspiration is taken from the Scottish landscape and seascapes, in particular those in the Uists and Shetland. Yarn types presently used included Scottish lambswool, linen and retro reflective yarns. This body of research was enabled as a recipient of a "Development Award" from the Scottish Arts Council, now rebranded as Creative Scotland towards the end of 2009. This body of research has allowed me to diversify my product ranges and fully explore my creative output through drawing and mark making. Current collaborations include working with Myer Halliday (Ceramicist) Fiona McIntosh (Printed Textiles) as well as producing a range of brooch pieces and printed wall pieces on paper.
My wearable fabrics are exploring the rich Scottish landscape through repetitive pattern and texture employing treble cloth structures, which also look at the shrink qualities of the yarn types used to further enhance textured surface through the finishing processes.
My collections are shown at national and international trade events. I have no minimum order and have a degree of flexibility where individual buyers can select colourways to suit there own tastes using my weave structures, in this way I can produce both one off pieces and small batch production collections.
Due to the nature of the manufacturing process my work tends to sell through the higher end of the market.
