About Alison Fair

Personal Statement

I weave cloth, by hand, from wool (spun and unspun pedigree organic Shetland fleece), fine linen, naturally dyed silk and organically grown cotton. I use natural materials, natural dyes, and woven structures to explore relationships between textures, materials colours, patterns, and layered textiles.

The horizon of Galloway (earth and tides) are a conscious and sometimes unconcious source of inspiration. I make a variety of 2- and 3-dimensional objects for the home including wall-pieces, cushions and table runners and can work to commission.

I was born in England, studied art in the USA (BFA, University of Georgia, and MA, California State University) and now live in the Scottish southwest.

My work has been exhibited in galleries on both sides of the Atlantic and in miniature textile exhibitions in Poland, Hungary, Italy and France. The weavings have been published in Metropolitan Home and American Craft magazines.
