About Alan Robinson - Ramoyle Glass Studio

Personal Statement

Ramoyle Glass Studio is operated by Alan Robinson. Although living in Dunblane, my main studio is in Glasgow. I undertake work throughout Scotland and recently completed a series of domestic commissions in Aberdeen.

I originally trained in painting and use line, colour and texture to make figurative and abstract designs. Many pieces are informed by my fascination with pattern, both natural and geometric.

Commissions have included windows, door panels, skylight and wall pieces. A recently completed large window (2m x 2m approx) features images of people, wildlife, buildings and natural forms. It was designed in close consultation with residents of a project for young adults with severe learning needs. I work closely with clients to achieve a design which fits the setting and meets their aspirations.

I have recently worked on a series of contemporary fused glass wall panels. These include wall mounted light boxes, using leds for a low profile unit.

I carry out a lot of repair and restoration work, including high quality glass painting. I am also able to undertake removal and refitting of stained glass panels.

Larger jobs can be undertaken in conjunction with a number of colleagues who are experienced glass artists.

I conduct an evening class in stained glass making, based in Dunblane. The classes are run in blocks of 10 sessions, on Wednesday evenings.
