Highland Stoneware was formed in 1974 in the North West Highlands of Scotland and has built an international reputation for quality and innovation. Located in Lochinver and Ullapool, both buildings are wonderfully decorated with mosaics designed by Kaffe Fasset which makes use of the rejected pots. We make functional ranges of tableware, cookware, gift items, one-off collectibles and tile panels to commission. Using three making processes, Jigger and Jolley, hand throwing, and our unique extruder each piece is modelled, assembled and finished by hand. Entirely free hand decorated without the use of templates and transfers, designs have been inspired by the beauty of the natural surroundings and often feature the scenery, flora and fauna of Scotland.More abstract themes are also explored, making use of the depth and quality of our glazes. The artists are encouraged to innovate and develop designs and to make each piece individual. every piece is signed by the artist.
The pots are fired to 1300 degrees Centigrade in a controlled gas kiln atmosphere. This combines a richness and depth of quality with performance and durability and gives a unique pallet of colours. They are also oven proof, freezer proof, dishwasher, and microwave safe, as well as being extrememly resistant to chipping. A truely unique product entirely hand made in Scotland.
