About David Hewitt - Wemyss Sea Glass

Personal Statement

David Hewitt is an artist originally from Glasgow now living and working in Fife. He holds a degree in Education and spent many years working in that field helping adolescents and young adults find realistic alternatives to the problems they encountererd while growing into adulthood. While having a fullfilling career, it was his hobby of creating works of art from glass reclaimed from the sea, that eventualy became the major passion in his life and he decided to make the transition from full time career to full time artist and present his real love and skills to the world.

Working mainly with Sea Glass, David produces remarkable images with subtle colours and compelling shapes that are reflected in his unique ability in bringing structures and figures to life, using the Sea Glass he has quietly and patiently collected over the many years. The notable inspiration he finds while exploring the coasts of Scotland are influenced by the historical traditions of Scottish and world cultures and his own artistic creations.

The Sea Glass artworks David creates have a internal mystical luminescence and posess a wonderful clarity of expression that make them appear to be inbued with a profound sense of spiritual calmness and peacfulness.
