Ruth Chalmers
Ruth experiments with materials and movement to create witty sculptures and jewellery. These reflect themes of domestic rituals, family life and the comical antics of animals.
She explains “I strive to create pieces that are playful and humorous and whether making small scale jewellery, or large-scale sculptural pieces, I like to add a moveable element to them.”
She trained in jewellery and silversmithing at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and enjoys experimenting with different materials and techniques.
This work can be seen in The Cutting Edge: Scotland’s Contemporary Craft, a national touring exhibition which is on show at Aberdeen Art Gallery until 12 April 2008.
