Sarah Hutchison – Silver

Sarah graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2005 and her work is primarily inspired by the natural movement of the metal.  She is passionate about piercing, and all her work derives from this passion.

She works mainly in precious metals and loves the combination of large areas of silver with details of gold and is exploring new ways of incorporating semi precious stones and pearls in both her silversmithing and jewellery.

In her silversmithing she has been using a new way of working.  She carefully pierce cuts shapes in the sheet metal and then raises the piece.  As she raises it the pierced out sections alter and change the shape.

She has received a commission from the Incorporation of Goldsmiths of the City of Edinburgh to produce a piece for an international touring exhibition, details of which will be announced in the New Year, and has recently received an award, details of which will be announced later in September.

In October she will be exhibiting at Goldsmiths’ Fair in London.
