Sarah Keay - Jewellery

Sarah creates jewellery, mainly necklaces and bracelets, using silver, enamelled wire and knitted wool which are inspired by art forms found in nature, especially sea creatures, and shipping knots.

Various colours, textiles and forms, and materials such as wool, wire, found materials, gold, platinum leaf and pearls, are all used in her designs along with ‘stamens’ of monofilament with enamel paint on the tips.   The pieces are mainly sculptural and lightweight, and come alive with the movement of the body, evoking creatures such as sea slugs to entire coral reefs suspended from the wearer.

She is participating in The Cutting Edge exhibition which will open in the Museum of Scotland in 2007.

She has undertaken residencies at Cove Park in Helensburgh, The Bonhoga in Shetland, Bridge of Don Academy in Aberdeen and ‘Windows in the World’ in Dumfries.  She wrote a diary for craftscotland of her residency in a school in Kilwinning as part of ‘Elements of Change’ which culminated in an exhibition of work by Sarah and the pupils.

She has also exhibited at Dazzle, Jewellery Unlimited in Bristol, Array at Taigh Chearsabhagh and various solo shows.

She graduated in jewellery and silversmithing from Glasgow School of Art in 2004.
