Su Blackwell - Textiles

Textile designer Su Blackwell graduated from Royal College of Art in Mixed Media Textiles.

She uses labour intensive processes in her work that involve sewing, tearing, knotting or other intimate actions that reveal the hand at work.  Inspired by nature and its hidden beauty, she seeks to capture an essence of this fragility.  Imagery or birds and butterflies are connected with a sense of freedom and escapism which is precious to her.  Her work can be paralleled to poetry which nourishes and enriches the soul of the reader.  The intention is that the viewer of her work will witness something beautiful and walk away feeling uplifted.

Su, from Sheffield, has lectured extensively and worked as a community arts officer in Bradford.  She has exhibited in group and solo shows around the UK including ‘While you were sleeping’ which was funded by the Arts Council of England and showed in Melbourne Australia.
