Weaving The Century: Tapestry from Dovecot Studios 1912-2012 is the first major exhibition of tapestry in Scotland for over 20 years and is the highlight of the Dovecot’s centenary year celebrations in 2012.

Curated by Elizabeth Cumming, the exhibition will feature more than 60 tapestries, rugs and designs spanning 100 years of Dovecot history including iconic and rarely seen works.

In the one hundred years since it was established Dovecot weavers have built a reputation of collaborated with leading international modern and contemporary artists, a tradition which continues today.

Weaving The Century: Tapestry from Dovecot Studios 1912-2012 will bring together work from many of these artists including: David Hockney, Paul Gauguin, Elizabeth Blackadder, Sir Peter Blake, Edward Wadsworth, Cecil Beaton, Graham Sutherland, Eduardo Paolozzi, Louise Nevelson and Claire Barclay.

The works in the exhibition will represent the broad range of visual styles and technical weaving styles that has firmly established Dovecot’s reputation as a centre for excellence and innovation. Dovecot tapestries are represented in major museum and private collections around the world and this exhibition will bring many together for the first time.

In addition to the exhibition we are delighted to announce the publication of a new authoritative book about the last 100 years of Dovecot history edited by Elizabeth Cumming and published by Lund Humphreys. The book will feature essays, personal responses from weavers, artists and patrons, images of exhibited works as well as works not included in the exhibition. It will be the first fully comprehensive survey of all the works produced by Dovecot in its 100 year history.
