Designed for textile artists working in any media, the focus of this masterclass will be on personal development.

The aim of this course is to enjoy the surprises and the effects of colour within fibre and cloth. Designed for textile artists working in any media, the focus will be on personal development. Using the felt process as a form of exploring and discovery for new ideas and approaches.

Individual tutorials will encourage participants to extend their individual textile practise. To move forward with ideas or concepts for fashion, interiors or gallery work whether installations, wall works or 3D. Jeanette will give a power point presentation and demonstrate various art and textile techniques, alongside individual tutorials and group discussions.

COURSE CONTENT:
Exploring the mixing of fibres and the overlay of fabric, to create various degrees of strong vibrant colours or the depths of grey. Using the shrinking properties of wool, the felt process can transform various types of fibre and natural or synthetic fabric into very interesting surfaces. Reassembling and juxtaposing these contrasting areas will create various compositions and forms. Considering proportion, tones and tints, scale and structure.

Beginners to the felt process are welcome, as the technique will be used as a form of drawing, painting and collage. Various exercises in paper or textiles are designed to initiate a direction to explore and observe.

These experiments will be used to make connections and associations with individual themes and the surrounding environment. Fabric and paper samples will be developed within a research folder. This becomes a wonderful source for direction during the course to complete a piece of work and for future use.

Price: £350 excluding materials
