The Lighthouse, 11 Mitchell Lane, Glasgow G1 3NU

Showcasing the work of 15 contemporary Scottish textile designers, SAMPLE, curated by textile design collective Collect Scotland, aims to draw the focus to these usually anonymous innovators, with one of the largest exhibitions of printed textiles in recent years.

The exhibition fills The Lighthouse’s Gallery 1 with printed textiles and sculptural displays of large-scale fabrics in a huge, interactive exhibition. Featuring specially-commissioned work around five key ‘trends’, SAMPLE shows off the versatility, vibrancy and too-often overlooked talent pool of Scottish textile design.

SAMPLE aims to shine a light on the bold, innovative, contemporary work being created in Scotland. Designers in this exhibition have created work for major brands and organisations such as Nike, IKEA, Converse, Paperchase, Made.com, White Stuff and the NHS. Each designer’s work straddles commercial and artistic spheres, and SAMPLE offers a unique chance to expand the latter part of their practices.

In addition to the commissioned work by 15 designers, the exhibition will also include a retrospective of commercial work by the wider Collect Scotland membership.

Commissioned designers include Vanessa Hindshaw, Chloe Highmore, Hazel Dunn, Marion Parola, Susan Castillo, Mhairi McMullan, Rachel Duckhouse, Yvonne Elliott-Kellighan, Joanna Dixon, Lorna Brown, Lyndsay Mackie, Marie O'Connor, Natasha Samasuwo, Ruth Mitchell and Alice Dansey-Wright.

The exhibition will run from Friday 24 March to Thursday 18 June 2017, with a preview on Thursday 23 March, from 6pm to 8pm.
