Amanda Baron graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with a BA (Hons) in Architectural Glass in 1992.
She has completed numerous commissions for private, religious and secular buildings and has worked extensively as a conservator of stained glass in Scotland for over 25 years.
Specialising in glass painting Amanda creates work that reflects on her experience in the field of stained glass conservation and restoration. Her work stems from the process of deconstructing stained glass windows to closely examine individual fragments of glass that require careful documentation, cleaning and repair.
The surface decoration, shapes and depth of mouth blown glass, without the constraints of lead, influence her work.
Amanda creates collections of glass fragments and glass paintings that converse with each other to evoke a sense of place. Each collection reflects her research and documentation into elements of Scottish landscape.
Amanda is developing new work that reimagines historical processes and methods by applying traditional glass painting techniques to mouth blown glass.
