'House Move' - Craft Residency for Newfoundland and Labrador Craft Council

In 2016 I was maker in residence for the Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador, a winter residency, my research and choice of materials focused on fishing and the traditions of the area - including house moves. Inspired by these incredible stories and photographs of houses pulled across ice.

Angus Weaver of Grass - Scottish outsider artist - full size replica grass garments.

I solved the mystery of how Angus MacPhee made his grass garments. Angus was a crofter from Uist who spent almost 50 years in a Highland psychiatric hospital. During this time he chose not to speak - instead he wove garments from Grass. All now in Glasgow Museums.

Documenting the domestic Each holds a memory, from jam making, bread making in winter to rainy days when laundry dried indoors on the clothes maiden & endless washing up. Many of the traditional wrap aprons had floral patterns. Worn by women doing chores in and around the home.
