Martin Campbell is a Glasgow-based designer maker. He grew up on the Hebridean island of Beinn nam Fadhla (Benbecula) among a community for which pragmatism, resourcefulness and co-operation was everyday. These early experiences have strongly shaped his interests in creativity and making, and in 2011 he established ‘The Rag and Bone Workshop’.Martin aims to create inclusive environments, facilitating situations where people can re-learn hand and craft skills. He champions the physical, mental and social benefits of making for empowering individuals and communities. He uses materials in an inventive, resourceful and environmentally conscious way; creating furniture and sculpture from re-appropriated materials; organising and participating in exhibitions that explore these themes; facilitating skill-sharing & educational workshops; and engaging with local communities and organisations to collaborate on projects.
