After initially training in Architecture, I realised that I was much more interested in hands-on making and studied Fine Art at Leeds College of Art and the University of Northumbria. I set up and ran a gallery and picture framing business in North Yorkshire for 10 years before taking the leap into full-time creative work in 2013. I studied for a Diploma in Glass and Ceramics at the National Glass Centre and have since been working from my studio, initially in North Yorkshire and since 2017 in the North West Highlands where I've built an off-grid eco-house and studio. My ceramics are all handbuilt using a range of techniques and hand-carved. The glazes I use are all made and developed by me in response to the colours and textures around me. I'm very much inspired by the natural world and the wonderful landscape and colours on my doorstep - – the mesh of branches on wintry trees, the geometric patterns in eroded rock faces, the rhythms of the tide or the intricate structures of pods, leaves and petals.
