This course is suitable for beginners as an introduction to working creatively with clay. If you've been on a course before you are welcome to join the course to explore and develop your skills in more depth. It will run each Thursday morning from 10.30 til 1.30 for five weeks. We will cover different approaches to handbuilding including the traditional method of coil building, using press moulds, and throwing on the wheel. A variety of ways of creating surface decoration (using slips and glazes) will be covered; exploring texture, pattern, colour and markmaking at different stages. Each technique will be demonstrated at the start, and you will be able to work on projects of your own design.
Fiona has been a practicing ceramic artist since the mid 1990s, and runs the studio along with Chris Donnelly. Cyan Clayworks is a community interest company.
