June’s Workshop – Create a Hanging Mobile:
Think of the American Sculptor and Inventor of the hanging mobile, Alexander Calder! Learn how to create a mobile with pre-cut linoleum components. Roslyn will provide a selection of hand-cut geometric Linoleum shapes, in various colours which will then be suspended from wire arms. Have fun selecting and sorting each piece, then finding the perfect balancing point which allows your mobile to gently dance and float effortlessly in the air.

Who is it for?
This is for anyone who would like to create a mobile that is striking and unique. Under 16’s need to be accompanied by an adult. Included in this workshop is a 20% discount for the Spinning Top Cafe – Adam Smith Theatre’s Cafe Bar. Attendees will also be eligible for discounted use of the Design Suite post-workshop.

About the Designer:
Roslyn Leitch creates jewellery using a combination of precious metals and linoleum, drawing inspiration from mechanical shapes, forms and movement. Traditionally a flooring, Linoleum is a wonderful, sustainable, warm material, made from easily renewable ingredients such as linseed oil, cork powder, and other organic additives. It also contains natural anti-microbial properties. The material has manufacturing roots close to Roslyn’s home. Members of her family worked in the local factory and offices which has supplied the world for over 140 years. She fondly grew up with the floor covering her home and loves what is known locally as the ‘queer-like smell’ which often fills the air around the factories.
