The exhibition In the Bleak Midwinter will run from 3 December 2021 to 3 February 2022 at Baskwell Arts’ space, 18 Spey St Ln, Leith.

Inspired by Rosetti’s poem, it explores materials and themes that play on warmth within the cold, rough tones, and arid textures. It offers a glimpse into a harsh winter but a comforting stillness.

The exhibition welcomes the wilder side of the winter, the maddening and pagan, as well as the comforting, pastoral, and even religious undertones the title and inspiration suggest.

The show features the different faces of winter, through paintings by Scottish artists, pottery by local and international makers, comforting textiles, and other items to warm up everyone’s season.

Please come look anytime from 11am to 8 pm until the 12th of December and call for an appointment any other time after!
