Charlott Rodgers Collect 2023 Booth Talk - FoamGlass

Booth TalkCool Ceramics - Hot Foamglass by Charlott Rodgers

Noon, Thurs 2 Mar 2023

Cool Ceramics - Hot Foamglass: a synthesis of opposites (materiality, process and concept).

This talk will explore Charlott Rodgers' making processes especially developed and needed to craft the combined Foamglass and ceramic pieces shown at Collect 2023. Slip cast Bone China and volatile Foamglass are joined during a kiln casting (foaming) process to create unusual material combinations.

These highly experimental and unconventional making processes are grounded in detailed scientific research and documented to create unexpected aesthetics. Charlott will talk about her fascination with unconventional crafting methods and why defiant making and questioning traditional making conventions are relevant and important.

In-person talk at Craft Scotland's gallery space W10, West Wing held at Collect, Somerset House. Free to attend for ticket holders.

Kate Owen - Collect 2023 Booth Talks

Booth TalkExercises in Design by Kate Owens

Noon, Fri 3 Mar 2023

Textile artist Kate Owens introduces her unconventional block printing practice which combines print with choreography.

Kate has had a partially fixed spine since she was nineteen, prompting her to counter this rigidity with movement in her work. Kate will elaborate on her rhythmic approach to textile printing and how it relates to the visual motion within her prints.

There will be an opportunity to handle print blocks, hear about recent journeys into natural dyeing and discover Kate’s influences from design to dance arts.

In-person talk at Craft Scotland's gallery space W10, West Wing held at Collect, Somerset House. Free to attend for ticket holders.
