Call for Ideas - Craft and Tourism

Applied Arts Scotland is calling for bold, imaginative ideas to be developed into prototypes during a five-day experimental workshop in the Cairngorms this October.

Closing date: 9 Jul 2026

Applied Arts Scotland are excited to announce a unique opportunity for creatives, makers, and anyone passionate about cultural heritage and rural innovation.

As part of CULTURALITY, the AAS Project Team are looking for ideas that celebrate craft, connects visitors with authentic experiences, or reimagines heritage for sustainable tourism.

If you have an idea that celebrates Craft, connects visitors with authentic experiences, or reimagines heritage for sustainable tourism in rural Scotland, they want to hear from you.

Two ideas will be selected and collaboratively developed by a small and diverse group during a ‘Living Lab’, an immersive, hands-on workshop in Nethy Bridge.

The workshop will run from Monday 5th October to Friday 9th October.

Bring your creativity, curiosity, and collaborative spirit and help shape new ways of sharing Scotland’s rural cultural heritage.

Freelance and self-employed participants will receive payment at the SAU recommended sessional rate. Depending on your location travel expenses, meals, and accommodation can be provided for the duration of the workshop.
