The Edinburgh Assay Office Award

The selected maker will create a unique piece of contemporary silver, one that represents excellence in craftsmanship in Scotland.

Closing date: 4 Nov 2025

The award is purposefully open in its premise, inviting makers to create a noteworthy piece of silver by asking the question: what is one piece of contemporary silver you have always dreamed of making, but never had the chance to?

A hallmark, completed at the Edinburgh Assay Office, should be a prominent feature of the work. The scale and type of piece will be determined by the maker, in line with the award budget. The selected maker will receive up to £5,000 to bring their vision to life.

In partnership with the Hugo Burge Foundation, the award also includes a fully funded, four-week residency at the Marchmont Silversmithing Workshop.

Applications are open to silversmiths and jewellers living and working in Scotland with a minimum of three years’ post-graduation and/or training experience. Applicants must also be able to demonstrate their ability to apply silversmithing techniques to create a larger object.
