This brooch was inspired by the miraculous symbiosis that occurs in lichens. It is a kinetic portrait of a cladonia lichen, made from brass and surgical steel.

Formication

This brooch is part of the collection titled 'Togther Living'. It is part of my response to my observation of the symbiotic relationships between ants and other organisms. This piece explores the idea of captured insects for scientific study. It is made of brass and surgical steel.

Breakdown

This brooch is made from surgical steel mesh in a pillow form, which is perforated to catch the light as it moves. It is a response to my study of fungus and its essential role in braking down dead material to make room for new growth.

Envelope

The envelope is significant in my work, a reference to the scientific safe storage of pressed flora for centuries, allowing them to be studied by generations.
