In this workshop you will be introduced to the traditional craft of bookbinding by a professional bookbinder, using proper tools, materials and equipment. You will be led through the process of binding an A5 hard cover book, from start to finish, and then create a slipcase box to keep it safe.

You will have plenty of materials to choose from, and you will learn about material handling and traditional processes, taking home the knowledge and skills to make more books at home. The workshop will focus on the skills of sewing a text block, making a hard cover in cloth and paper, accurate measuring and cutting, constructing a sturdy box and covering in cloth.

This workshop is suitable for beginners as well as those with some experience. Ages 14+ due to the sharp nature of the tools used.

Refreshments will be provided throughout the day.
