While the currents and storms of worldly affairs ebb, rage and flow, our artists are busy behind their studio doors quietly developing & reconfiguring their raw materials, ideas & experiences, transforming them through imagination, skill, patience and grit, into beautiful works of art.

Those doors will open wide again this summer, as Artmap Argyll's 18th Open Studios event extends a very warm welcome to visitors from 16 - 25th August.

This is Argyll's premier visual arts event and a wonderful opportunity to dip a little deeper into a usually hidden world. This year there are 57 Artmap locations, comprising 12 venues, 2 art clubs and 43 artist studios. With 15 different disciplines represented by artists working in glass, pigments, wood, clay, ceramics , paint, silver, printmaking, textiles, stone, photography and more, there is a wealth of knowledge, experience and beauty to explore.

Chatting to the artists who live and work on Scotland’s remote Atlantic fringe you may discover more about their daily lives: the skills, practices, inspirations and frustrations which lie at the core of their work: the grit that seeds the pearls.

Following the now iconic Red Dot Trail, which this year stretches nearly 100 miles, (from Southend in Kintyre to the south to Ardhattan by Loch Etive in the north, plus 3 island studios across Mull and Tiree), you will travel through myriad diverse landscapes: ancient oak woodland and lush rolling farmland, past dark lochs and glittering seas, under soaring cobalt, or pearlescent grey skies, glimpsing “little slices of heaven”, elements of which you may notice resurfacing again and again, transformed, in the work of our wonderful west coast artists .

Download the map from the Artmap Argyll website or pick up a printed Open Studio Guide which will be available in a large variety of venues across Scotland.

The studios will be open from the 16th- 25th August (see the guide/website for the days that individual studio will be open), from 10am - 5pm on the specified days.
