In this beginner’s ceramics workshop, artist Amy Benzie will guide you by exploring two methods of handbuilding: pinch pot sculptures, and ‘Kurinuki’. We will use a range of tools to carve out vessel shapes and textures from a solid block of clay. By the end of the workshop, participants will have each created two ceramic pieces informed by these techniques and will have the option of adding a splash of decoration with a range of coloured slips.
Amy Benzie is a ceramic maker and creative facilitator based in Torry. Her curiosity lies in the alchemy of glaze chemistry and atmospheric firing. The element of spontaneity that comes from working with her materials and the exchanges between art and science greatly inspire the otherworldly forms and textures of her work. She is a founding member of the newly opened Aberdeen Ceramics Studio. An open access ceramics studio supporting artists of all levels.
