Sand-casting is a simple, fun introduction to casting and an excellent way to reuse scrap silver from previous projects. In the first half of the class, you’ll explore which shapes will work best with sand-casting and look at how to cast a stone in place. You’ll spend some time building moulds incorporating your choice of cubic zirconia or sea glass, and learn how to calculate silver weights to guarantee the perfect pour every time. Your experienced tutor will safely conduct all the molten metal pours. In the afternoon, you’ll learn how to remove ‘sprues’ and tidy up your cast silver pieces to a high-quality finish.
