In the Making brings together a focused selection of contemporary makers working across knitting, jewellery, kilt making, and wood and metal. The exhibition foregrounds craft as a site of decision-making; where material, technique, and form are tested, refined, and pushed forward.
Wool becomes pattern and texture. Silver and gold are cut, heated, and resolved into precise lines and weight. Tartan is measured, pleated, and constructed with architectural clarity. Wood and metal are shaped through resistance and response.
The exhibition centres practitioners who run established studios and businesses, whose knowledge comes not only from training but from sustained practice. What emerges is a conversation about control and risk, tradition and contemporary crafts, labour and value.
In the Making asks us to reconsider what we mean by craft: not nostalgia, not pastime, but a rigorous and evolving field grounded in skill, sharpened by experience, and alive to the present moment.
