‘Februa’, for February, means cleansing or purification, and reflects the rituals undertaken before Spring. Stories, traditions and customs around food, the weather, flowers and bird love will be just some of the imagery featured on Julia Smith's printed, handmade ceramics.

Big broth bowls, candlesticks, cake stands, snowdrop cups and other functional pots will be created using a variety of dark rustic clays, experimental glazed surfaces and illustration.

Julia’s geographical location by the Moray Firth can be sensed in her work; "Two Little Pots Battling the Wind" (reverse) references old weather lore in which a cold and wild February was a predictor for a year of fine weather ahead.

These ceramics will be displayed from 8 February at the Castle Gallery in Inverness, and will be sold on a first come, first served basis.
