Initially working in soapstone, participants will then produce larger relief carvings in sandstone. James will share insights from his experience of working on public art projects across Scotland including an opportunity to see a current piece as it nears completion. Participants will learn about the properties of different stones and will work with a variety of tools including chisels, mallets, files and rifflers. This course is suitable for beginners and those with some carving experience. It will be structured to respond to the interests and abilities of the class and to explore creativity through stone.

All materials and tools will be supplied including safety equipment. Please wear appropriate clothing.
