Selvedge are now looking for artisans to take part in the Selvedge World Fair 2021.
Selvedge are now looking for artisans to take part in the Selvedge World Fair 2021 (31 Aug - 4 Sept 2021), and they want to hear from you if you are a maker of handmade textiles.
The event will represent as many textile traditions as possible and will offer lots of opportunities for visitor engagement. As with the 2020 event, the 2021 World Fair will be held online and will include virtual workshops, talks and panel discussions. Selvedge welcome new ideas for virtual events and for ways to bring visitors closer to your work. In your application you will need to describe your processes, the materials you use and how this relates to your cultural identity.
Priority will be given to makers who use local natural materials and sustainable processes. You can read more about the application process and requirements as well as access the application portal here.
The first Selvedge World Fair took place 3rd - 5th September 2020. The three-day virtual event celebrated cloth, culture and creativity, presented the work of master artisans, bringing together varied - and in some cases endangered - textile traditions from around the world. Visitors were able to buy handmade treasures, take part in workshops and watch and participate in talks on textile-related themes. Some artisans have decided to keep their stores open and you can browse their items to get an idea of the types of work represented.
