St Kentigern’s Academy are looking for an inspirational and passionate teacher of Craft Design & Technology (CDT) to join their successful and popular CDT department. Subjects currently taught within the department include CDT, Design & Manufacture, Practical Woodwork, Practical Metalwork, and Graphic Communication across all levels. Knowledge of and experience teaching these would be preferable but not essential.

St Kentigern’s Academy is a Catholic secondary school situated in Blackburn serving the west of West Lothian, and the catchment area retains a community spirit and aspects of its mining cultural heritage. It is one of two denominational schools in West Lothian. The school has ten associated primary schools, but in session 2021-2022 our S1 is made up of students from twenty two primary schools, drawing a comprehensive mix of students.

The current school roll is 1285 Students with 92 FTE members of teaching staff including those designated to support students with additional learning needs. Departments are organised under the direction of a Principal Teacher Curriculum responsible for each Curricular Area. The school’s free meal entitlement (FME) for session 2020/21 is 19.1%. The school has an integrated Autism Support Unit (Multi-Study) in addition to a Learning Base, Nurture Base and both an Employability and a Health & Wellbeing Hub.

St Kentigern’s Academy has an excellent reputation in the local community, particularly for the high standards of conduct and confidence displayed by students and full school uniform. In addition to the formal curriculum, a wide range of extra-curricular and out-of-hours activities are on offer. The school receives a high level of support and encouragement from parents.  Attendance at parents’ evenings is good, and information and consultation exercises are well supported. The school had a successful HMIe visit in 2017.

St Kentigern’s Academy recognises that the curriculum is not only ‘what’ students learn but also ‘how’ they learn.  They place an emphasis on the student experience and seek flexibility to ensure that students achieve success in examinations and through personal achievement pathways.
