The Weavers Industry & Education Awards 2022 are now open for submissions.
Closing date: 31 Jan 2022
The Weavers Industry & Education Awards 2022 are now open for submission across four award categories:
- Lifelong Contribution to the Textile Industry
- Best new woven Fabric or Textile
- Most Innovative Fabric or Textile
- Textile Student Award
1. Lifelong Contribution to the Textile Industry
Awarded to an individual who has given long service to a company, educational institution or textile business, promoting good practice in the production, design or marketing of textile and fabrics. Nominations will always be treated with utmost confidence and the submission for an individual nominated should be accompanied by a full curriculum vitae. It is not possible to self-nominate.
2. Best new woven Fabric or Textile
Applications are invited from Weavers who can exhibit top-class design, technical ability and understanding of colour to deliver an exquisite example of weaving. The weave can be worked on a large handloom, small handloom or can be machine woven.
3. Most Innovative Fabric or Textile
For weavers who are working at the “cutting edge” of fabric manufacturing. They must exhibit a quality textile that can be used for innovative purposes, perhaps in the fields of medicine or science, perhaps fabric that has greater durability, perhaps fabric made of a substance usually considered unrelated to the textile industry.
4. Textile Student Award
This category is aimed at College students who show merit and innovation in their approach to working with textiles. The Incorporation of Weavers Glasgow will contact Colleges and the Glasgow School of Art to develop this category and seek candidates.
The Awards will be signified by a certificate of merit and a medal presented at the Weavers’ Industry Dinner. For categories 2, 3 and 4 there will be a cash prize for the winner.
Entrants can be students (either undergraduate or postgraduate), qualified weavers, home weavers etc: in fact, anyone who weaves, makes or uses beautiful fabric and is submitted via the entry form. Nominations are welcomed from Industry, Educational establishments, businesses and individuals engaged in working with fabric and textile.
Submission Deadline: January 31st 2022
