Grain and Groove is a woodworking studio based near North Berwick, East Lothian, founded by three Chippendale School of Furniture graduates: Laura, Ben and Chlomo. We create bespoke furniture and wooden wares that are full of character and artistic expression.
Our goal isn't to make as much as we possibly can but to create meaningful items that have longevity and purpose. We take pride in being able to take a raw material from the sawmill to the client's home, allowing us to fully appreciate and understand the entirety of the making process. We're inspired by the American Shaker Movements care and consideration for every object they produced and we hope to instil these values into our own pieces.
A defining element of our work is the use of original illustrations by Phoebe Hutcheson. Phoebe is entwined in the very fibres of Grain and Groove, with her fabulous brass and copper work often being sold from our market stalls. Grain and Groove shares Phoebes passion and love of folk art, mythology and the Shaker movement.
