Ruth Elizabeth Jones makes clay vessels, drawing on forms and culture from world ceramics as far back as the neolithic. Using coil-building, gritty textured clays, raw surfaces and smoke-firing Ruth makes statement pieces for interiors. She is fascinated by the distant echoes of shapes from the past: pottery made in matriarchal societies, used for food and long forgotten ritual practices.

Working like a sculptor, Ruth simultaneously deals with inner volume, outer form and surface, creating feminine forms, often with wide hips and generous bellies. Ruth practices yoga and her intention is that some of that meditative mindset is retained within the work as clay, air, fire and water combine.
