I am Mavi Hamali — a Turkish Ebru artist living and working in Dumfries, Scotland.

Ebru is the ancient Turkish art of painting pigment on water. Each sheet is made on the surface of a tray, shaped by breath, by touch, by the particular stillness of that moment. When the paper lifts from the water, the pattern is already complete — made in collaboration between hand, material and time. No two pieces are ever the same.

For many years, this was a deeply private practice. When my daughter started school, something shifted — and what had felt entirely personal began to feel ready to travel further. MarbledByMavi grew from that moment: a small studio in Dumfries, making hand-marbled papers and handbound notebooks for those who love beautiful, considered things.

My papers are made for bookbinders, artists and collectors who value the unrepeatable. Each piece carries the trace of a single moment — a breath, a decision, a colour finding its own way across the water.

I am a member of the Society of Scottish Artists. My practice sits at the intersection of an ancient Turkish tradition and the quiet landscape of southern Scotland — two places, one tray, one surface, one unrepeatable moment.

Everything is made slowly, by hand, in Dumfries.
