What’s On FAQs & Criteria
What is the Craft Scotland What’s On listings?
What’s On is our curated list of high-quality craft events, exhibitions, classes and courses taking place in Scotland. The individual listings direct our website visitors to places they can see and buy high-quality craft, meet makers, learn about, participate in and engage with craft. We also publicise classes run by professional makers with the aim of developing participants’ understanding of craft and supporting makers to make additional income.
Can I add my event to the Craft Scotland What’s On listings?
Yes! However, please note that the Craft Scotland What’s On pages are designed to showcase the very best in high-quality craft. With many other websites available where you can list events suited to a hobbyist craft audience, we have opted to curate our listings and showcase the very best in design-led, Scottish craft to our audiences.
What are the criteria for listing an event or class?
Craft Scotland list events which showcase, demonstrate or teach high-quality contemporary craft. Events should be run by, exhibit the work of, or have a strong connection to at least one professional maker who is producing quality work that demonstrates a high level of craft skill, excellence and the unique vision of the maker. Events may also be endorsed or run by a professional organisation that supports makers. Classes and courses should enhance the skills of those participating – they might act as an entry route towards a career in making, or enhance the skills of a more experienced maker.

Will my event appear on your site exactly as I have submitted it?
Craft Scotland will review your submission, and may edit it for spelling, grammatical or other purposes. See our Terms & Conditions for the full information on user-generated listings.
If you have a Maker or Place profile in our Directory, this listing will also appear on your profile.
Opportunities FAQs & Criteria
What do you consider to be an Opportunity for makers?
The listings you see on www.craftscotland.org were accepted because they will help a maker based in Scotland to advance their craft career. This can take the form of funding, bursaries, awards or grants, jobs, commissions, submission requests for exhibitions, fairs, markets, shops or other craft events, and business training. We won’t list any opportunities that we consider unfair/exploitative of makers.
Do you list unpaid positions?
Craft Scotland is committed to ensuring that makers are paid fairly and appropriately for their time and effort. We recognise the value of volunteering in the arts and that there is value in makers having access to relevant work experience, shadowing and mentoring opportunities (where it is offered and arranged properly). We will only approve voluntary opportunities if they are upfront about being unpaid and offer a genuine opportunity to gain experience or collaborate. Craft Scotland is a Living Wage employer and we adhere to the Scottish Artist Union’s guidelines on fair pay. We hope our partners, supporters and audiences will follow our example.
