Pleating is a traditional craft which enables the application of sculptural form, volume and pattern to fabric. It uses cardboard moulds to achieve intricate and precise folds which are made permanent through the use of steam or heat.

During this brand new day-long course, we’ll start by looking at the history of pleating and its various applications before going on to create a collection of unique pleated samples.

From simple accordion folds to more intricate herringbone patterns, you will explore lots of different pleat styles. There will be variety of fabrics available for you to use including viscose, felt, linen and silk and there will be plenty of time to try out different moulds and patterns.

At the end of the day you will leave with an impressive array of samples, a set of re-useable moulds and all the necessary skills and confidence to continue to pleat at home.
