Fifteen of Laura’s embroidered postcards will be on show at Bard. Like paintings in thread, each takes between 8-12 hours to stitch. They depict picturesque Edinburgh locations such as Arthur’s Seat, the neoclassical monuments on Carlton Hill; RMJM’s 1960s Royal Commonwealth Pool and the glowing red Tennent’s ‘T’ sign that lights the way to our pubs. Laura’s embroidery asks us to pay closer attention to the sites and markers of Edinburgh that we show to the world, and that the world comes to see. The postcard - something fleeting and bygone – rendered in her thread becomes an artwork; a reminder of the Scottish holiday that lives longer than the Instagram feed or fridge door.
