Crafts at HDK-Valand Academy of Art and Design at the University of Gothenburg are looking for a Senior Lecturer of Crafts specialising in Textile Art.

Crafts at HDK-Valand in Gothenburg is an all-encompassing environment that involves constant exchange between education, research and society. The Crafts programmes at the first and second-cycle level include specialisations in Ceramic Art, Jewellery Art and Textile Art. HDK-Valand provides Doctoral studies in the field of Crafts. Artistic exploration through materials and concepts is the basis of the Crafts programmes at HDK-Valand.
The education encourages development of skill-based knowledge, fosters debate about the meaning of material inquiries, and investigates the conceptual identity of the crafts. Textile Art at HDK-Valand emphasises material-led knowledge and understands textile as a complex carrier of multiple global histories and meanings. Coursework aims to prepare students for artistic careers that will contribute to the international field of textile art. Textile Art has well-equipped workshops and studios in central Gothenburg that enable work with manual and digital techniques including tapestry and jacquard weaving, tufting, sewing, printing, dyeing and embroidery. In addition, our partnerships with arts organizations and city-based archives supports student learning in craft and exhibition practices.
The role involves teaching primarily at the MFA Programme in Crafts. The language of instruction is English at the MFA programme.
A successful candidate will work closely with colleagues in Ceramic Art and Jewellery Art and will also teach students from all three specialisations. The principal focus will be on teaching students who have Textile Art as their specialisation. In this context teaching includes, supervision of student projects, examinations, development of course content and administrative responsibilities that pertain to assessment and evaluation.
Teaching responsibilities and tasks includes course syllabus development, participation in working groups with other lecturers and examinations across the different craft fields. In addition, the position requires participation in the development of activities within the Crafts and Fine Art Unit, and department working groups.
The Senior Lecturer in Textile Art is expected to support the development and critical contextualisation, artistic and research development of the subject Textile Art and more broadly Craft. Dialogue with technicians and teachers at BFA in the specialization in Textile Art is encouraged to support subject development and innovation.
The candidate is required to have a good understanding of the significance and semiotics of material, technical knowledge and skills in working with textile and a broad experience of the textile medium in an artistic context, including knowledge of curatorial and exhibition practices or art in public space. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a network of national and international partnerships of interest for the faculty and the department.
