FRANCES TECKKAM CRAFT TEXTILES.I began designing and making my collection of handmade knitted accessories after working in the UK textile industry for many years. I enjoy experimenting with the effect of colour on pattern and pattern on colour. I make all the pieces myself, from start to finish, using natural fibres mainly spun in Yorkshire and Scotland.I have had 3 solo exhibitions of my work in the Scottish Borders: 2014 Before the Fall, Harestanes, Ancrum; 2018 After the Fall Borders Textile Tower, Hawick; 2019 Border Knitster, Old Gala House, Galashiels. My work can be found at various galleries including: Buy Design Gallery, Harestanes, Ancrum; An Independent Zebra, Raeburn Place, Edinburgh; Alchemist Gallery, Dingwall and Creative Strathaven. The patterns and products I create are influenced by the historical and traditional use of pattern to decorate everyday objects and inspired by the natural beauty of the Scottish Borders. I enjoy designing new patterns and products and continually experiment with the effects of colour on pattern. Ultimately I like to make things that are individual, beautiful and usable.
