Creative makers wanted – time capsule design

Scottish Book Trust is seeking expressions of interest for the design and build of a physical time capsule, launching at Book Week Scotland 2020.

Closing date: 14 Aug 2020

Scottish Book Trust, is seeking expressions of interest for the design and build of a physical time capsule, launching at Book Week Scotland 2020 – Scotland’s national celebration of books and reading. This project is delivered in partnership with the National Library of Scotland.

The ‘See You in Ten Years’ capsule will home brand new writing from notable Scottish author Val McDermid, alongside a selection of stories by teen writers from across Scotland. The capsule will be housed at the National Library of Scotland.

We’re looking for a small, beautiful design featuring decoration that reflects a love of books, plus a lockable container to hold the writing. We have some ideas, but are open to creative suggestions. We welcome interest from makers in any medium – but there are constraints on the materials and dimensions for conservation purposes. The National Library of Scotland has provided a guide to appropriate materials and will also be available to advise the commissioned maker.

The budget for design and build is £1,000.

For more information and a full brief please contact sally.lewis@scottishbooktrust.com.

Deadline for registering your interest: Friday 14 August 2020

Production will take place from August – October 2020.

Scottish Book Trust is a national charity that believes books, reading and writing have the power to change lives. A love of reading inspires creativity, improves employment opportunities, mental health and wellbeing and is one of the most effective ways to help break the poverty cycle. We work towards a Scotland where everyone has an equal opportunity to thrive through literacy.

Book Week Scotland is a week-long, national celebration of reading and writing across Scotland and online. We support library services, local partners and schools to hold events that they know will include and enthuse the people in their communities.
