The Portal Arts are currently seeking to recruit a number of freelance craft tutors for their Creative Steps to Wellbeing project.

Closing date: 16 Jun 2023

Creative Steps is a project run by The Portal Arts. The Portal Arts is a community arts and media charity based in the Govan area of Glasgow and are currently seeking to recruit a number of freelance craft tutors for their Creative Steps to Wellbeing project.

Successful candidates will be hired on a temporary, project based basis although there is likely to be opportunities to cover further blocks depending on availability. Sessions will be agreed upon in advance.
freelance tutors are paid £80 for a two hour workshop and £130 for a standard day which consists of 2x two hour workshops with additional set up and clean up time.

Payment will be on a monthly basis

Portal Arts run fun and engaging arts and crafts classes for adults experiencing a mental health condition. Their friendly and creative tutors deliver a wide range of workshops: examples from the last year include working with clay, jewellery making, hand sewing, paper crafting and felting.

All classes are free. Portal Arts are funded by the National Lottery Community Project and the Glasgow Council Communities Fund and Comic Relief

The Creative Steps programme has been developed for adults experiencing mental health conditions with the aim to improve social connectivity, build resilience, and to promote positive mental wellbeing, whilst encouraging participants to gain new skills.

A three-step progression model is used to reach people who may struggle to take the first step into community based activities.

Step 1 takes creative classes out into health settings, where people are already attending services for support with their mental health.

Step 2 is community-based classes, at the Portal Arts Gallery 966, Govan. Tutor led classes meet weekly and participants attend for as long as necessary or until they feel ready to take the next step.

Step 3 is the wider activities. Participants can get involved in a range of extra activities, such as machine sewing, photography, pottery, knitting and a community choir.

Portal Arts are seeking to recruit freelancers for all of these steps.
