Open 2018 & the Craft Scotland Prize

Closing date: 6 Nov 2017

Martin Allan Smith

Society of Scottish Artists and Visual Arts Scotland invite artists to apply to be part of the biggest show of contemporary art in Scotland: Open 2018.

Working together for the first time, these two leading arts organisations are joining forces to present an ambitious, one-off, collaborative, jointly selected and curated exhibition celebrating the best in contemporary and applied art.

All artists and makers are now invited to submit work for consideration.

There are two categories for artworks, each with separate deadlines. General submissions for works in 2D and 3D forms open Monday 25 September, and close on Monday 6 November 2017.

The Craft Scotland Prize

The Craft Scotland Prize of £500 is awarded to one piece exhibited in VAS' annual exhibition for its outstanding design and craftsmanship. This year's Craft Prize will be selected from a Scottish-based maker working in glass.

Together with VAS, we curate a media-specific showcase that shines a spotlight on a different craft discipline each year. The showcase celebrates our mutual ambition to exhibit quality craft in a venue fitting of its stature, and in context alongside works of fine art. The media-specific showcase during Open 2018 will highlight three of Scotland's talented glass makers.

We would like to continue this celebration by encouraging glass makers to apply for Open 2018. If selected, you will be in the running to win the Craft Scotland Prize.
