Like many of Cyan Clayworks' courses, this will be run by both Fiona and Chris, to give everyone enough practical support. This introductory class will introduce you to two contrasting methods of making ceramic pots. Everyone will make a small pot on the wheel; Chris will take you through the basics of centering the clay, hollowing out the form and creating your own bowl or cup.
Slab building is a popular type of hand-building. Its ideally suited for making small unique pots that could also have a textured or embossed surface. Fiona will introduce you to designing and constructing pieces with sheets of clay (these will be rolled out in advance for you so at the right consistency). These will be decorated with coloured slips. All your pieces will be finished, fired and glazed for you ready to collect a few weeks later.
