Join the winner of the Cordis Tapestry Prize, Louise Martin, for a weekend of alternative abstract weaving. Nail looms are an alternative frame or loom that allows for a more free form of weaving than a traditional frame loom. The nail loom is adaptable and lends itself to the creation of irregular shapes, which can be added to and joined with no cut ends showing.
We’ll provide nailed boards to create your for first sampler using coloured warp and a variable weft mix. You’ll only use small amounts so it’s a great zero waste approach to weaving where we can use up lengths of thread from our other classes. Once we’ve nailed the technique you’ll move on to experiment with warping in variable directions, in grafting on a second shape, and using different yarns.
